The NHS is tackling change on an unprecedented scale. While it restructures and adopts other policy reforms such as Payment by Results and Practice Based Commissioning, the Health Service is also radically changing the way care is delivered in order to improve its offering and address financial challenges. These changes are extensive, complex and need to be successful if the NHS is to thrive in the future when the growth in public spending on health is reduced.
Cornwell has a skilled and experienced team of consultants working across the health care sector with the Department, Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs), Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and Trusts, including Foundation Trusts. Within the Department, we have worked extensively with most directorates.
In addition, we have strong working relationships with organisations supporting the change agenda. Our consultants have worked with NHS Connecting for Health to help ensure that the health communities deploying National Programme for IT (NPfIT) are able to secure appropriate benefits from that investment. Cornwell consultants are also at the forefront of migrating legacy patient records to electronic form, complementing Care Record Service deployment, to ensure a safe and secure move to improved patient care and efficiency.
We have had considerable involvement with the NHS Integrated Service Improvement Programme (ISIP), working with SHAs and frontline healthcare communities to plan and implement integrated service improvements that address local strategic priorities. Our consultancy work on effective alignment of service improvement plans with Local Area Agreements (LAAs) and PCT Local Delivery Plans (LDPs) underpins commissioning and allows provider organisations to manage the challenge and risk of transition to new care delivery models.
In the Acute sector our consultants work with hospitals to help reduce waste and increase the quality of patient service through the effective use of Lean Thinking, while our communications programme is modernising one of the emergency services with new digital radio technology.
Our work in the health covers the entire change lifecycle with our consultants providing individual, client-tailored support in all areas from the strategic vision to hands-on implementation. We have specific health sector skills and experience in the areas of:
- Planning and delivery of service improvements to meet quality and value objectives working across health organisational boundaries and into social care.

- Moving to electronic patient records including strategy, cutover, new ways of working, acquiring scanning solutions, assuring record security and managing document services.
