Electronic Document and Records Management (EDRM)

Classification Schemes and Fileplans

Before an EDRM system can be implemented, a suitable classification scheme (similar to a fileplan) should be established to organise the records. Sometimes existing fileplans such as those developed for paper files, or a standard like the Local Government Classification Scheme can be adapted. However where there is no suitable existing fileplan a new one must be created.

Development can be a long and complex task that must often be completed in a short timescale. Preparing a new fileplan brings challenges:

Cornwell is expert in this area and, as an acknowledged thought leader in EDRM consultancy, our consultants are ideally placed to undertake classification scheme and fileplan development.

This task is critical to the success of EDRMS and consequently we have developed a proprietary software tool to support our consulting work. Only available for use in connection with our assignments, this unique tool underpins the work of our consultants and facilitates the capture of, and ability to work with, the large volumes of information involved. This allows our consultants to develop complex classification schemes efficiently, and to deliver them in a usable format.
